Obama's Speech
I didn't think I would watch Obama's State of the Union speech tonight. I had grown very disenchanted with politics after our great state elected a nude center-fold republican last week. After which Jeff and I slept in seperate beds for two nights. But, I was tired and had to watch something, so Obama it was. I fell in love all over again. I still can't believe the difference in basic intelligence between Obama and Bush - it was refreshing. I'm a cynic. So, if I ever exhibit hope, as I did last year when Obama was elected, and have it dashed as I did this year when the democrats whimped out on the health care reform battle, it will probably not come back. I'm not hopeful that the government will provide us with a meaningful public option health plan, nor am I hopeful that we will stop killing people in other countries under the guise of national security, but at least I can continue my intellectual(and maybe physical)crush on Barack Obama; or as my husband calls him affectionately "Barry."

Gingerbread Ship
The girls love to make gingerbread constructions every year with their dad. This year they wanted to make a ship - Jeff wanted a shipwreck. I told them that I could not be involved. The frosting and gingerbread and mess get me a little stressed out. In this construction you can see a giant mermaid barbie attcking the ship. This was Elise's idea.

I don't know how to do this, but I'll try...
Gwyneth is taking a hiatus from blogging. I'll fill in until Elise learns the ropes and can take over.
We just had a wonderful week with our California cousins and their parents. We're so lucky they were able to make the trek to visit us from San Francisco. We had some bitter cold days to remind them why they love California. The cousins always seemed to be able to start inventing a new pretend play game with costumes and complicated story lines. Jeff and I will miss the many deep discussions with Andy and Jenny, and I will particularly be craving more in a few days (sometimes the mind gets lonely by itself!).
Here are some pictures of our time together:
This is at our New Years Eve Party when we were having a great laugh over the "Snuggie" phenomenom.
Dramatic play including Celeste.

New Years Eve Party Hats

Getting ready for a great day of skiing at Pat's Peak in NH.
If you want to see better and more extensive pictures check out Jenny's blog at http://www.minerminutiae.blogspot.com!
