Kidney Walk 2010

Thank you to everyone who made donations to the National Kidney Foundation!  We had a wonderful time on the walk at the Franklin Park Zoo.   All told we raised nearly $1200 for NKF.  Before it started we were entertained by stilt-walking juggling clowns and face painters. Gwyneth and Delilah made this great sign for us to carry.  Delilah proved to be a great help, both with fundraising ($300 going door to door by herself and with Gwyneth), and the ultimate optimist on Sunday morning.  Delilah cheered everyone up when things got tough.  Before the race started Camille desperately want to get her face painted, but the face painter only created masterpieces, and we were 20 kids behind in the line for this body art.  Delilah and Gwyneth set to work making our sign and name tags so that everyone knew we were walking for Elise. After seeing the beautiful artwork on Elise's and Camille's faces, Gwyneth and Delilah just wanted a little something, but this painter couldn't do little!

We saw a few people we knew from when Elise was first diagnosed at age 5.  Brenda, who was 2 at the time, has the same diagnosis as Elise and they met in the CAT/CR, the infusion center at Children's Hospital where they would receive 6 hour albumin infusions.  Brenda is now 6, and is experiencing a similar partial remission.  We are so thankful that Elise has relative health, and especially grateful for the NKF for raising awareness and funds to help fight kidney disease!

That made me get teary! Sweet girls! After I learned about about your walk, I found out there is one here in San Francisco either the same weekend or just 1 or 2 removed from yours. Either way, I thought maybe our family should do it together next year and Elise will have people walking for her on both coasts.
